Volunteering
TDST is an all-volunteer, parent-run organization, with the exception
of our coaches, who are paid. Volunteerism, however, is the lifeblood
of our swim team and what keeps it running. Without parents generously
volunteering their time, there would be no TDST. Make no mistake,
TDST needs you!
Each family with a swimmer on the team is an essential part of
the volunteer commitment needed to make our season a success. Therefore,
we require that each family commits to volunteering for TDST. Our
greatest need for volunteers is at the Annual Ted Walker Swim Meet,
which will be held on July 13-15, 2007. We ask that each family
mark the date on their calendar so they are available that weekend
to help. We also need parents to volunteer to time at away swim
meets, even if it is only for a few hours. Please check this web
site frequently for upcoming events.
Fundraising
In order to keep swim team fees low, and still have the resources
we need to run a successful swim team, we must have a few good
fundraisers each year. The following are the fundraisers we have
planned for the 2006-07 swim year. We will make sure everyone understands
their responsibilities if they choose to help with a particular
event. If you are interested in helping with any of the events
listed below, or have any great ideas for fundraisers, please contact
director Lena Macnab at dir.lena.macnab@tdswimteam.org or
(541) 980-8251.
Candy Bar Fundraising
The candy bar fundraising event was a great
success last year! The swimmers did such a great job selling.
This year we will
begin the candy bar sales in November and they will continue
through the end of January. At this time, Lena needs someone
who is willing to be in charge of passing out candy bars to
the swimmers at swim practice and collecting payment. This person
would need to attend practice one day a week at The Dalles
Fitness
and Court Club and be able to meet with Lena once a week to
turn in payment. Please call 980-8251 if you can make this 3 month
commitment or if you have questions.
Heat Sheet Fundraiser
Forms and information on heat sheet fundraising
will be sent out in March 2007, and will be due the 3rd week
in June. Each swimmer
needs to gather $50 worth of ads, whether they are from businesses
or families, anyone who wants to pay for an ad in the Ted Walker
heat sheet.
Pop Can Drive
We will be having a pop can drive next summer. Lena
needs 2 volunteers that are willing to help set up this event,
and who are willing
to help on the day of the event. The event is tentatively scheduled
for July 5, 2007. You will need to be available for a few meetings
in May and June and from about noon until 9 p.m. on the day
of the drive.
Kiss the Pig Fundraiser
The kiss the pig fundraiser will take place
at the Ted Walker Invitational from July 13-15. Lena needs 2 or
3 people who are willing to
help with this event. You would be responsible for recruiting
visiting coaches to participate, creating the jars for money
donations, keeping all monies earned safe, and keeping meet participants
updated on who is “winning.” Basically, whoever earns
the most money in their jar will “win” and get to
kiss the pig on the last day of our swim meet.
Silent Auction at Ted Walker
This year we would like to have a
silent auction at our swim meet here in The Dalles, July 13-15.
Lena needs 4 or 5 people who
are willing to help with this event. These helpers would be
responsible for soliciting persons/businesses to donate goods and
services,
creating the tables for the auction, monitoring the tables
for the auction, and collecting monies and delivering winnings
to
highest bidder.
Recruitment and Community Event at May Meeting
This year we really
want to make sure that everyone in our community, and the surrounding
communities, know about The Dalles Swim Team.
Lena needs 2 or 3 ambitious people who are willing to help
with recruiting new swim team families, and help to plan a fun
community
event that will take place during the annual May Registration
Meeting. The events will be similar to the ones we had last
year, but we will open it up to community members who will consider
joining our team.
